Jean-Adam Guilain : Organ works for the Magnificat
One volume 10” × 12½” 50 pages Euros 34.-
Guilain’s four Suites rank among the greatest masterpieces of the French classical organ, and may be compared to the works of Fr. Couperin, Marchand or Grigny. Here one may find one of the four genuine Quartets for the organ, some Pleins-jeux far over usual standards, and no doubt the most spendid Cromorne en taille of the whole History of organ.
This edition is based over the only two remaining known manuscripts of theses works. Guilmant, in his old edition, invokes a third manuscript ; but in fact this is a rather strange mistake, which was discussed in Nicolas Gorenstein’s article The Guilain case published in the French magazine L’Orgue (n° 235 of July 1995).
