Boyvin (±1650 † 1706) was the organist of the Cathedral in Rouen from 1674 to his death. He had in charge a magnificent instrument, which happened to be entirely rebuilt under his direction and so became one of the most complete and finest in the kingdom.

It induced him to write two great organ Books.  The second one, of which no complete modern edition was available from the beginning of the century until now, includes eight large Suites in each of the usual eight Church tones, and makes use of the ordinary forms of the French classical organ : Plein-jeu, Trio, Fugue, Tierce en taille, Récit, Dialogue sur les Grands-jeux, etc.

This Book is a basic and unescapable one.
